Sonar 2010

So for those who don't know, Sonar is one of the world's biggest electronic music festivals. Held in Barcelona, Spain it boasts impressive lineups of some of the worlds finest DJs. This year was no exception!

Radio 1 recorded much of the festival and many of the sets are available to listen to here! Check it out seriously, you won't be sorry you did!

My top 3 forthcoming tunes of the week

In no particular order,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mS3_jBZZ6XY

Alix Perez and the mighty Foreign Beggars smash it again with this superb track, "Dark Days". Forthcoming on the new Alix Perez EP which is due to be released later this year on the almighty, Brighton based label Shogun Audio. No official release date set, but rumors are pointing towards it being put out after the next tune in my top 3.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxehe84TjY4

Another well known name from the Shogun Audio camp now, with this fantastic track by the drum and bass badmen known as Spectrasoul. If you've got your wits about you (and a fiver for entry...), you can catch Spectrasoul doing a TWO HOUR SET at Cult on Saturday 2nd July. Check the event page here http://www.facebook.com/massivearsehole?v=wall#!/event.php?eid=121558174552875&ref=ts This track is set to be released very soon, however a date hasn't been put out. Track the vinyl on Chemical Records if you're a hardcore vinyl junkie.

Last but not least is a tune coming out on Metalheadz, by the legend that is S.P.Y. S.P.Y has been smashing since his first release, with a constant stream of quality. Xenomorph is no exception to this, and is quite possibly (in my opinion) his best tune yet. With a drop that comes out of nowhere, and a bass which would make anyone quake in fear, its shaping up to be one of the biggest tunes of the year. Cop it, children, as the release is coming!

Before I depart, a quick shout out to the badman like Gee, with his youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/drumsandthebass?gl=GB&hl=en-GB This man smashes it for new releases, and is shame-inspiringly overlooked. Subscribe, because he uploads videos for everyone. Be you a jump up raver, or an eyes down, minimal head, you'll be pleased. Big up, Gee!

Next post: some jump up.

Black Noise...

This isn't particularly new but I've been into Black Noise for aaaaaaaaages now so I thought I'd blog about them.

The above tune is an example of one of their originals that's been released but I particularly like their remixes, the first one I heard is the Tonka - Jack Track remix which is biggg! If you don't have it google it or buy it because it's sick and still a regular in my sets when I play out.

Anyway the tune I'm giving away is their remix of Crookers - Business Man I downloaded a while back but never listened to, and I was just listening through some tunes on iTunes and this came on and made me stop what I was doing. It's proper old style big, wobbly fidget, the kind of tune that got me into fidget back in the day... but it's not behind the times don't worry! It's just bloody good.

So here it is:

Bonus:
I don't feel too bad giving this away because it's old as fuck now but yeah...this is really bloody big, from back in the day. The original is really good too but this remix is just mad.

Moby - One Time We Lived (Matrix and Futurebound Remix)

Hi all, quick post to let you know about a couple of cool things which are free. Starting with this...

Moby is easily one of the most unique producers of the past 20 years, with his signature sombre and melancholy sound. You may remember his debut, which was this -

Moby - Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad (YouTube Link)

So how would it sound to you if the drum and bass LEGENDS that are Matrix and Futurebound had remixed one of his tracks, introducing their upbeat, spacey and synth driven sounds to the chilled and stripped back? To me, it sounds incredible!

Download: Moby - One Time We Lived (Matrix and Futurebound Remix)

Cop it, children!

You can also download a free track by myself, called Alas. There is a free wav up for download on my Soundcloud, and very soon there will be an EP of remixes, from man like Fable, Root One, Jaysics, and possibly a couple more, so keep yo' eyes peeled. :)

http://soundcloud.com/ratchetmusic/ratchet-alas

Next week you'll find my tune of the week, my tune of the month, and fresh info on dnb/dubstep producers and DJs in Nottingham and other areas.

Big up children!

A big ol' Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs dump...

I've been playing tunes from this chaps first EP All In One Sixty Dancehalls since I first copped it back last summer and he recently released his second EP All In Two Sixty Dancehalls and it is bloody brilliant. I would recommend you all run across to Beatport or iTunes now & purchase both EPs. To give you an idea of the new one here is a snippet from my favourite track off it...

Evveh I'm sure you'll agree...

NOW!

If you don't fancy buying the EP just yet or are slightly strapped for cash then you're in luck as he is giving away a free mp3 of his track Move On so cop that....here!

Also, because I'm dead nice here's 2 other tracks by mister TEED, one is an original from his All In One Sixty Dancehalls EP and the other is a remix of Crystal Fighters - Xtatix truth...which got remixed to death last year by many a producer and this remains my firm favourite out of them all, in fact I'd go as far as to say it's one of my favourite tunes of last year. So there you go!

Todd Edwards & MJ Cole!

Todd Edwards, for those that don't know, has been around for over 10 years now and if any you need proof that he is big in the game then here it is: he co-produced & performed vocals on the Daft Punk track Face To Face.

If you don't think working with Daft Punk is big then I suggest you sit down & take a serious look at your life.

Anyway!

His new tune I Might Be is good...BUT MJ Cole is also very good and has taken the vocals and the melody and crafted them around a beautiful garage style beat. I wouldn't normally play this kind of tune out but I bloody love it and have played it at most of my sets ever since I first copped it.

Not only is the track great but HE'S GIVING IT AWAY FOR FREE!

Bloody hell!

So here you go:

Click the little arrow pointing down on the far right of the player and make sure you leave a comment saying thank you to the nice man!

ALSO!

The lovely people at RCRD LBL have been giving away the Joy Orbison remix of I Might Be too so go cop that here!

My First Post.... Yay ETC....

Context MC - Mental Breakdown Music

Okay, as a DJ I get sent a lot of music, some good, some bad and in the dubstep scene a lot that is just very generic. This guy, Context MC, got in touch via Twitter asking if i'd check out his music and i'm glad he did. To be honest, I really wasn't sure what to expect, I was half expecting a bog standard mixtape featuring standard grime bars / themes. I was wrong! This guy is on to something! Go checkout his 'Mental Breakdown Music' E.P here which is available for free download.

You can also find Context MC on Facebook and Twitter.

Sway - Blow The Whistle

This tune is Sway fully on form with his usual clever wordplay and sick lyrics. Not only is this tune sick, but he's also giving it away for free! You can download it from his website: Linky!

Major Lazer - Hold The Line (DJ Madd Refix)

As we all already know, Major Lazer kill it every time and 'Hold The Line' is one of their biggest tunes to date. You may also know about DJ Madd, but if you don't, he's a Hungarian dubstep producer who's moved over to Bristol. This is his remix of 'Hold The Line' and it's a baaaaannngggerrrr!

Download: Hold The Line (DJ Madd Refix)

Adidas HD25s

Okay, I promise I will be your BEST friend if you buy me a pair of these. Possibly the coolest headphones I have ever seen, it's just a shame they're so overpriced! Is it Christmas yet?
